Diversified Lighting Associates:

Business Challenge:

Is a Commercial Lighting Distributor with over 70 employees, before #i2m cloud migration project, Branch Offices and Remote Users were always suffering, weather prone Infrastructure, power outages, slow performance of local legacy infrastructure and connectivity issues back to branch office that caused data syncing issues with applications at Main Headquarters. This left staff at each branch not able to do work efficiently with constant disruptions. Branch office’s also had legacy client machines which had mismatching MS Office licenses and versions. Exchange email was using a shared traffic heavy system. The Main Site and Branch Offices were using a legacy backup solution that was error prone and required a lot of maintenance/management and expensive physical/cloud based disk space and servers to operate. Including an on-premise Monitoring/Alert system that was prone to failures.

#i2m Solution:

We recognized the use of AWS and #i2m | cloud, would be the perfect fit for this business challenge. We consolidated their Active Directory Infrastructure from multiple Servers at each site. We designed and migrated their on premise infrastructure to a cloud based Windows Active Directory infrastructure with File/Print/Application Remote Desktop System shared by the Branch Offices and Remote Users. We designed for High Availability and Redundancy. Secure VPN Tunnels were created to each branch office to create a secure connection between their branch office and AWS Virtual Private Cloud. We also migrated their mission critical database application running on MS SQL Server to the cloud while leaving the on premise MS SQL Server to sync with the cloud based MS SQL Server. Head Quarters’ Staff connected to the existing on Premise MS SQL Server while Branch Offices and remote users connected to Cloud Based SQL Server with the ability to cross connect to either server. We then architected a new Email Exchange System, that gave the branch office and main office a Private Email System to better serve the entire company. All remote Users and Branch Offices Now Connected directly to the Cloud Based Remote Desktop Server using Remote Apps or Full RDP Desktop from anywhere anytime to access their data and applications. We also implemented the #i2m | cloud Enterprise Backup solution that is server-less backup solution that uses AWS S3 as a backend and light client installation on each server and critical machines. Designed a complete cloud based monitoring/alerting system.

#i2m Solution Benefits:

When DLA was migrated to the cloud, we optimized their infrastructure for the cloud allowing remote users, branch offices, and Headquarters to seamlessly connect to the cloud environment from anywhere, anytime, any device. This gave DLA increased stability, availability, and redundancy and increased performance gains for their critical business applications. That allowed DLA to focus on their Core Business while not worrying about their IT systems and applications. This saved DLA a great deal on their IT operations and expenses, not requiring any front end capital to renew their technology. This gave them scalability and growth opportunity with their technology. Software compliance/deployment/management was made easier with the use of Office365 and #i2m SAAS Services. Being on the cloud also allowed extremely fast recover of their systems in case of any failures. Time frame to recover went from a risky 1-2 weeks to a few hours to fully recover their environment in the cloud. Moving to the cloud also decreased the amount support calls and system problems overall by 30% making DLA more efficient and able to focus on their work. Moving to the cloud also gave DLA the power to quickly adopt any new technology with ability to test and develop new software applications and services that would best fit their future needs. Due to the success of this project, we are working with DLA on a project to move the rest of the entire Headquarters’ Infrastructure to an all cloud environment making DLA all in cloud.

Lifeline:

Business Challenge:

Is a Sleep Study Center with 6 locations in Pennsylvania, with over 40 users ranging from Doctors, Sleep Lab Technicians, Management Team, and Customer Service team. LifeLine Sleep Centers is HIPPA compliant to protect their patient privacy, but them being compliant meant that there was an extra heavy workload on the staff to ensure these polices are met. Before #i2m cloud migration project, Staff and Remote Users were always suffering, weather prone Infrastructure, power outages, slow performance of local legacy infrastructure and connectivity issues back to Main Office. Legacy custom application built by #i2m at Main Headquarters was difficult to manage maintain and monitor. This left staff and users not able to do work efficiently with constant disruptions and outages. Main office’s also had legacy client machines which had mismatching MS Office licenses and Sleep Study Applications and versions. Client machines were XP and outdated and extremely inefficient. Sleep Study labs were using old machines and could only conduct one sleep study at a time from each sleep study terminal. Doctors had difficulty accessing sleep studies and completing their studies for their patients in a timely manner. The Main Site and Labs were using a legacy backup solution that was error prone and required a lot of maintenance/management and expensive physical/cloud based disk space and servers to operate. The Main Offices and Labs were spending an extreme high cost on their existing IT foot print across Labs and Main Site. Adding to this is Telephone/Communication Costs that were getting out of hand. This included a faxing service that was not reliable difficult to maintain and operate. Lifeline reached out to us to see if that somehow we can consolidate their IT footprint and Reduce the cost of their current monthly spend on IT and finding an alternative solution to their very high Telecommunications cost.

#i2m Solution:

We recognized the use of AWS and #i2m | cloud and cloud based telecommunications, would be the perfect fit for this business challenge. We consolidated their Active Directory Infrastructure from multiple Servers at each site. Due to the success of this project other Sleep Study Centers and Hospitals became really interested in how Lifeline operates and manages their IT costs and operations, providing a total lower cost to conduct a sleep study than many of the competitors in the market. Lifeline used Cloud as a differentiator in how they operate, manage and run their business in an efficient manner setting an example for other Sleep Study Firms.

Impact Services Cooperation:

Business Challenge:

Impact Services is one of the largest non-profit organizations with over 200 employees, before #i2m cloud migration project, Branch Offices were always suffering, weather prone Infrastructure, power outages, slow performance of local legacy infrastructure and connectivity issues back to main office. This left staff at each branch not able to do work efficiently with constant disruptions. Exchange email was setup on local infrastructure, with a large amount of users connecting to the on premise infrastructure everyday causing very slow bandwidth for normal office users and users accessing email from outside of the office either from branch location or other. The Main Site and Branch Offices were using a legacy backup solution that was error prone and required a lot of maintenance/management and expensive physical/cloud based disk space and servers to operate. Including an on-premise Monitoring/Alert system that was prone to failures. Being a non-profit poses many challenges for the organization owners, Funding for IT projects, software and systems, is not always an easy task, as Non-profits especially have to use the funding to serve the core of their mission so it not always available for IT and Budget is typically low and rely on organizations like Tech Soup to help fill the Gap. The biggest obstacle in this is CapEx spending which any non-profit is typically difficult to approve, as it serves primarily for their end mission first and not internal advancement.

#i2m Solution:

We recognized the use of AWS and #i2m | cloud, would be the perfect fit for this business challenge. We consolidated, designed, migrated and optimized their on premise infrastructure to a cloud based Windows Active Directory infrastructure with File/Print/Application, Remote App System shared by the Branch Offices and Remote Users. We designed for High Availability and Redundancy. Secure VPN Tunnels were created to each branch office to create a secure connection between their branch office and AWS Virtual Private Cloud. We also migrated their mission critical accounting application Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP) running on a legacy Windows 2003 MS SQL Server to the new platform of the product. We migrated to Server2012R2 and rebuilt their environment using a Remote App Setup, where all the processing and heavy lifting happens on the cloud while to the end user its running as if it’s a local application. We then architected a new Email Exchange System, that gave the branch office and main office a private email system to better serve the entire company from the cloud not using up the local bandwidth at that the Main Headquarters. All remote users and branch offices could now connect directly to a Cloud Based Remote Desktop Server using Remote Apps or Full RDP Desktop from anywhere anytime to access their data and applications. We also implemented the #i2m | cloud Enterprise Backup solution that is server-less backup solution that uses AWS S3 as a backend and light client installation on each server and critical machines. Designed a complete cloud based monitoring/alerting system.

#i2m Solution Benefits:

When Impact Service Corperation was migrated to the cloud, we optimized their infrastructure for the cloud allowing remote users, Branch offices, and Headquarters to seamlessly connect to the cloud environment from anywhere, anytime, any device. This allowed Impact Services Corperation to have increased stability, availability, and redundancy and increased performance gains for their critical business applications. The new Microsoft Dynamics implementation was really successful users immediately noticed extreme performance gains when running it from the cloud. The application was more stable, quick and easy user adoption of the new version, cloud optimized to scale if the number of users were to increase. That allowed Impact Services Corperation to focus on their core business which is serving the community, veterans and struggling families while not worrying about their IT systems and applications. This saved Impact a great deal on their IT operations and expenses, not requiring any front end capital to renew their technology with a low recurring monthly rate. This gave them scalability and growth opportunity with their technology. Moving to the cloud also gave Impact Services the power to quickly adopt any new technology with ability to test and develop new software applications and services that would best fit their future needs. We aim to further optimize the environment to use Amazon Workspaces to replace dying machines that can longer perform to gain access to new cloud desktops that extended the life of their infrastructure with requiring to purchase any new equipment to serve the clients and staff.

Harvest Books: S3 solution

Business Challenge:

Harvest Books is a reseller of used books and books that are collections items and novelty to pieces that are very difficult to find and purchase, Harvest Books uses amazon along with their store front to sell their books. Harvest Books was looking for an easy solution to be able to reference pictures of these Book Covers and the condition of each book for users an Amazon’s sellers template on amazon.com.

#i2m Solution:

We recognized the use of AWS and #i2m | cloud, would be the perfect fit for this business challenge. We decided to use Amazon S3 to better serve the pictures to public users and to the amazon templet. We created a bucket structure to better serve the photos so they are not occupying the same S3 backend and overwhelming the system when multiple calls are made. We gave users access using Cloud Berry Explorer and Cloud Berry Drive, so the content was easily uploaded manipulated direct from the user’s desktops for ease of use and efficiency. By using S3 were able to generate public URL’s to these images that were accessible from anywhere.

AWS technology used: #i2m | cloud technology used:
S3, Glacier, IAM. CloudBerry Explorer Pro and CloudBerry Drive

#i2m Solution Benefits:

By using S3 we were able to provide an infinitely scalable durable store and fetch solution that fit the challenge appropriately. Using S3 was also very very inexpensive than other solution that were analyzed. Harvest Book recognized the power of S3 and are using it now for multiple functions of their business and personal use cases.

WPTC XRAY Imaging Solution:

Business Challenge:

Western Pneumatic Tube Company is a subsidiary of Legette and Platt, they are a manufacturing plant that produces mission critical metal tubing for the aerospace industry, Their Tubing is in many of the most popular commercial airplanes that you have probably traveled in. Western Pneumatic Tube Company has an XRAY process which is used to test every nano-meter of each tube for any defects, weld points, or weakness in structure, this process is extremely technical and is meant to ensure the precision quality and safety of the products produced. This X-RAY process produces a high volume of X-Ray Images on a daily basis. These X-Ray Images must be preserved for each of their customers in case of aerospace faults, investigative purposes for a reference of history in case any unforeseen disaster may happen these X-RAY images are recalled to make sure that there was no fault in the tubing used. This required that all the X-Ray Images be archived after 45 days of production to Local Storage. This was being handled by Multiple Storage NASs that backed up to each other to provide a Primary and Secondary in case one the physical devices failing. Which they did quite often.  This legacy type of Archiving method was outdated used up too much of the local bandwidth available on the network. Users on each side of the Manufacturing plant were suffering from Application/ File Access while the X-Ray Imaging Process of Archiving was carried out. IT had to constantly bring up new NAS’s and replace dying ones frequently. The amount Storage space was to capacity always have to add more space to suffice the amounts GB of data produced daily.

#i2m Solution:

We recognized the use of AWS and #i2m | cloud, would be the perfect fit for this business challenge. We decided to use the AWS Snowball, to export all the existing Archived Data 10’s of TB of data, along with Amazon S3 and Glacier. Data was first imported to S3 by using the AWS Snowball. Once all the data that was archived on NAS’s was uploaded to S3, we then archived that data into Glacier. We were then able to restore any X-RAY images required by customers or Western Pneumatic in 3-5 hours. We then created a recurring backup job using #i2m | cloud Enterprise Backup to fetch any new images produced daily and back that up to S3-Infrequent Access, for seldom and fast retrieval for any X-RAY images that are most recently produced.

AWS technology used: #i2m | cloud technology used:
S3, Glacier, IAM. Snowball #i2m | cloud Enterprise Backup

#i2m Solution Benefits:

By using #i2m and AWS Glacier we were able to provide an infinitely scalable Archiving Solution that was extremely durable, redundant compared to using the on premise storage devices. All the local Archiving Storage NAS’s were decommissioned. This reduced the IT dependency, time and money spent maintaining the hardware and storage infrastructure. Using the AWS Snowball made it easy, fast and secure to transfer the huge amounts of data out of their local infrastructure into AWS. Using S3-IA along with #i2m | cloud Enterprise Backup to back up the most recent XRAY Images, provided a fast and easy way to retrieve any images required on the fly. This was the least expensive solution compared to other solution that were analyzed. XRAY Images now are processed a lot faster more securely, and durable. This left both the IT Staff and Western Pneumatic able to sleep at night and not worry about failing or dying infrastructure that constantly need to be maintained.
